CNN —In true showstopping fashion, Beyoncé announced the release of new music last weekend at the Super Bowl, and proceeded to drop two buzzy country songs that hint at the vibe of her next album. The songs, “Texas Hold ‘Em” and “Sixteen Carriages,” were released by the singer shortly after the Super Bowl Halftime show on Sunday, and were accompanied with eye-popping visualizer videos on YouTube. Beyoncé followed that with the announcement of her eighth solo studio album, “Renaissance Act II,” and to no one’s surprise, the new project caused an incredible response across social media and beyond. They also know that this isn’t the first time Beyoncé has infused a country sound in her songs. Beyoncé’s album “Renaissance Act II” is set for release on March 29.

“In some ways, the challenges are greater than I anticipated,” Iger told CNBC in a revealing interview last month. But under Iger 2.0, Disney has cultivated even more headaches for itself, including a morale crisis sparked by one surprisingly candid interview with CNBC on July 13. Naturally, the comments set off alarms within Disney General Entertainment Content, the division that operates Disney’s broadcast and cable networks. A few days after the Faber interview, Iger tried to smooth things over at an off-site meeting with senior managers. But Disney appears to be all-in on the boss, even though the sequel almost never lives up to the original.

Disney CEO Bob Iger has said he will put "decision-making back in the hands of our creative teams." Under former CEO Bob Chapek's structure, distribution and budgets were taken out of the hands of creative execs. Chapek's 2020 restructuring — which focused the company's firepower on boosting streaming subscriber growth at Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ — meant additional layers of approval for studio and network execs at Disney General Entertainment (DGE) to get projects made. That meant hands were tied across Disney's studios and networks, from Disney+ to 20th Century to Hulu. For creative execs whose careers were built on their ability to balance storytelling and business needs, losing control over the latter was frustrating.
The returning CEO will have to unwind the business structure implemented by Bob Chapek while finding a successor. Around 70 people at HBO and HBO Max have been let go this year, and their comedy development teams have merged. While WBD doesn't break out streamer-specific figures, it said on Thursday's earnings call that HBO Max, HBO, and Discovery+ have a combined 94.9 million subscribers, ensuring that any show on HBO Max has the chance to get a lot of eyeballs. Bob Iger is returning to Disney as CEO, ending the rocky tenure of his successor, Bob Chapek.
